Bob Carls

A Minnesota favorite, Bob Carls creates lathe-turned and carved functional and sculptural objects from a variety of woods, often harvesting materials near his studio in central Minnesota. Grand Hand Gallery customers appreciate his classic designs, technical expertise and willingness to try new forms. Bob’s salad bowls, lidded jars and delightful spinning top sets are always in demand.

Over the years, Bob has exhibited his work at numerous juried craft events including the Laumeier Contemporary Arts & Crafts Fair in St. Louis, Art on the Square in Madison and the Minnesota Crafts Festival in St. Paul. His pieces are represented in the permanent collections of the Waage Art Center in Fergus Falls, MN; the Waterloo Art Museum, Waterloo, IA; and the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul. He served on the board of the MacRostie Gallery in Grand Rapids, MN and the Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship Review Panel. During the winter months, Bob tutors woodturning students. Together with his wife, Amy Sharpe, he is the proprietor of Ripple River Gallery, a popular destination near Deerwood, MN.
