Quality, handbuilt, custom furniture is the focus at the Minneapolis studio of Willie Willette Works. Willie and his staff are attuned to client participation when designing and fabricating seating, shelving and cabinetry specific to the site and its users. “Custom furniture allows clients to create pieces that reflect their distinct style and fit perfectly into their space,” states the artist. Employing environmentally conscious materials and processes, Willie selects locally harvested and reclaimed wood for his work. Willie’s artist statement: Willie Willette graduated from Saint John's University in Collegeville, MN with a degree in Literature and Philosophy, guaranteeing he would be working with his hands for the rest of his life. After eight years of museum exhibition design and fabrication at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, he opened Willie Willette Works, a one-of-a-kind design/build studio, in 1996. The business offers commercial and residential furniture and employs a full time staff of six. Willie teaches a design/build class for the Continuing Studies Department at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He has developed an aversion to Artist's Statements, and prefers to let the work speak for itself.
