Mary Obodzinski captures autumn in an enduring way with her stoneware pod and pear forms. “My terra cotta pods are inspired by the obsession to genetically alter nature,’ she states. “The pods are pinch forms that go through multiple glaze firings. The layers of glaze are sanded away, revealing layers of colors.” Mary adds charm to these works by enclosing small clay balls to create a rattle and finishing with real twig stems.
The artist has gained ceramic experience in over 30 years of workshops, experimentation and mentoring with other artists. Her work is included in the collections of the Southland Corporation, Dallas; the State of Illinois Artisan Gallery; and the Elizabeth Ann Seton Church near her home in Crystal Lake, IL.
