Nick Moen’s functional porcelain comes hand-delivered to us from his studio in Asheville, NC, where he has built and honed nearly every facet of his ceramics production. His ever-expanding collection of slip-cast molds allow him a great deal of precision in his designs, while his custom-made glazes, fired in small batches, create distinction and individuality.
Following graduation from Alfred University in New York with a BFA in Ceramic Art and Design, Nick traveled around the country studying and apprenticing in various ceramics studios, including Ursula Hargens (St. Paul) and the Northern Clay Center. Opportunities at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina and the neighboring Asheville arts community led him to settle there, where he is an active collaborator with restaurants and design studios. For Nick, much of his motivation comes from the utility of his work, “fueled by moments when chefs plate delicious food on my tableware and I share nourishing food and rich conversation with friends, experiences that stimulate body and mind.”
Nick Moen has been featured in American Craft Magazine, Edible Manhattan, and was chosen as an Martha Stewart American Made finalist in 2014.
