Richard creates fine ceramic forms from white earthenware, carefully finishing exterior and interior surfaces. Layering 8 to 20 coats of underglazed decoration beneath clear glazes, he fires each work up to four times to achieve a glass-like finish.
The artist holds a BFA from the University of Denver. His award-winning work is regularly juried into some of the top exhibitions in the country, including Chicago’s Old Town art fair, Denver’s Cherry Creek Art Festival and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show. In 2006, he was awarded a fellowship from the Illinois Arts Council. Richard maintains a studio in Evanston, Il and serves as a ceramics instructor for the nearby Deerfield Park District.
