Nicole creates beautiful leather-bound journals but also re-imagines the form as jewelry, salvaging every scrap to make pendants and earrings from her tiniest books. In her work, she incorporates natural and found objects and is committed to using recycled leathers.
The artist sees the journal as the perfect way to record a life, something that should not fall by the wayside in a technology-laden world. “It doesn’t matter if a person writes, draws, takes pictures or collects recipes;” she states, “her journals are both a piece of art and a blank canvas waiting to be filled up with the things that make a person unique.”
Nicole holds a degree in commercial photography from Hennepin Technical College – her photographs are often featured in her current work. Based in North Branch, MN, she is influenced by her travels, the rustic beauty of northern Minnesota and the shores of Lake Superior. “I’m a crazy, nomadic artist,” she declares, “and that’s really all there is to it!”
