Working collaboratively as Boar Glass, Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix create hand blown glass vessels and sculptural pieces at their studio in Durango, CO. The two artists, who have worked together since 1996, share design influences including world textiles, urban graffiti, landscape and undersea life forms. Using a foundation of Swedish and Italian techniques, Bengt and Trefny invent new methods as part of their process, exploring ways to move color through their work. The resulting forms are often constructed of multiple hues and overlapping elements and are both elegant and functional.
Bengt earned a degree in anthropology and glass at Tulane University in New Orleans then continued his study at the Corning Glass Studio in New York and at Washington’s Pilchuck Glass School, where he also served as a teaching assistant. Trefny graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, where she focused on sculpture and art history, and has studied at the Corning Studio, Pilchuck and at the Art Students League in New York. In addition to their Boar Glass line, Bengt and Trefny continue to pursue their individual work.
