Combining hot glassblowing with the cold techniques of sandblasting and carving, David Royce creates intriguing, textural forms. “My approach to glass relies heavily on layering of colors and extensive cold working to reveal those colors,” he states.
David began exploring glass art at the age of 15 as an apprentice to artists Tom Rine and Thomas Maras. He continued his work at Minnesota’s Anoka Ramsey Community College, at the University of Wisconsin River Falls, and during study abroad in Taiwan. After earning a degree in child psychology from the University of Minnesota, he established himself as an independent artist, working at the Minnesota Center for Glass Arts and at his own studio in Little Canada, MN. David and his work were featured on the Twin Cities Public Television series Minnesota Original.
