Thomas Maras has been working with hot glass for close to twenty years and has developed a loyal following for his fresh-feeling work.
“I enjoy taming and shaping molten glass, using many colors in a piece,” states the artist. “I am attracted to glass blowing because of the immediacy of the process. During the continual heating and cooling of fluid glass, the timing of every step is critical to the end result. Glass has a reflective quality unlike any other medium. It is the fast-paced procedure, the medium’s pure translation of color and the thought of people utilizing and displaying my work, which fuels my inspiration and passions. I love every aspect of glass: conceptualizing, displaying, utilizing and especially creating glass.”
Tom received his BA in glass and ceramics from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, in 1995 and now works in partnership with his wife Rebecca at their studio in Hudson, WI.
