Focusing on plein aire landscape and nature studies, this Stoddard, WI painter creates keenly observed and carefully rendered works that offer a view to the details of Midwestern natural life. “I concentrate on painting what I find around me,” states Katie, “as long as I can form a relationship through which I can learn and inspire others.”
River Journal, a series of recent work, reflects the artist’s experience during a summer of painting alongside the Mississippi River near her home in Wisconsin’s Vernon County. In these images, the artist depicts the beauty of plant and animal life without sentimentality. She found “a ton of things to paint,” recalling “animals washed up from the flooding, fish we’ve caught, road kill and other treasures.”
The artist earned a BFA in painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2004 and has since been exhibiting her work nationally, garnering awards including several Best in Show titles. She serves on the board of Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors.
