Nicky Torkzadeh emigrated to Minnesota from Tehran, Iran in 1984. She graduated from Augsburg College with honors with a BA in Studio Arts and Biology. Nicky went on to earn her Masters of Architecture from the University of Minnesota’s School of Architecture. Following her graduate program, Nicky worked for several years as a graphic designer at the University of Minnesota. She left that position to raise her children. As her children grew older, Nicky started painting again. This was something she was first interested in during her years in college.
Nicky’s work often features brightly colored flora and fauna in semi-abstract settings. While the colors she uses tend to be bold, the works tend to have a soothing quality to them-the cool hues, or calming subject matter. Her hope is to inspire stewardship of nature in the viewer.
