Sara Gilbertson

Working in oils, Bloomington, MN painter Sara Gilbertson creates atmospheric still life scenes with soft light and color. “My hope,” states Sara, “is to capture the beauty of an object, so that my paintings speak to the soul with reassurance that all is well and beautiful in our world.”

Inspired and encouraged by her teachers growing up, Sara discovered her passion for the arts at a young age. She studied painting and pottery at Normandale Community College in Bloomington and at the Minnesota River School of Fine Art in Burnsville. “The Minnesota River School,” she recounts, “was an education in the atelier style, using the sight size method. It was precise and formal in its instruction, and I found this traditional method of painting enchanting with its play on shadow and light.”

Sara Gilbertson, Harvest. "Growing up, at harvest time," the artist states, "we would head to Grandma’s house and help with canning. Corn, tomatoes, green beans and carrots...My aunts would be laughing, working, and telling stories of growing up in a big family. The smells, sights, and memories are still with me today."
