Andy Farkas

North Carolina printmaker and book artist Andy Farkas works with wood engraving, drypoint and etching techniques to create his detailed, evocative images, primarily in black and white. Reminiscent of antique illustration, Andy’s work explores the capabilities of fine line in creating form, texture and nuance.

Andy is the author and illustrator of a series of limited edition artist books including hmm . . a bear who thinks he’s a tree, Saints in a House of Healing, and Four Stories. He also offers website design and letterpressed goods at Fablewood, his Asheville studio. In 2007, he was a visiting artist at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis.

“The true nature of my work lies in telling stories,” he says. “The medium of story goes beyond ink, paint, words and music . . . it is a profound medium of which life itself is a tool.”
