With acrylics, gouache, and ink, Catherine creates whimsical scenes with impish characters and images that show her obsession with pattern and design. As a child, she was drawn to a coffee table book on Grandma Moses. Influences of American folk art are present in all of her work. Her lifelong favorite artists are Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and David Hockney. Catherine’s joyful colors, flattening of space, and impressionist style reflect the influence of these three artists.
Catherine studied at St. Paul College of Visual Arts and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She holds a BA in geology from Colgate University, and a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota. She lives and works in White Bear Lake, MN.
Catherine’s original works, reproduction prints, and children’s books are all available at The Grand Hand Gallery in St. Paul, MN.
