Kami Mendlik – impressionist painter and author has been painting light and color professionally for over thirty years – and teaching for over twenty years. And this summer will be releasing a nearly ten-year project of writing a book on painting color relativity.
She has become one of today’s most sought-after painting instructors and her waiting list for every class she offers is evidence of that. What’s creating such a buzz? It’s her unique strategy for creating the illusion of light and form through color relativity with a simple limited palette. Her emphasis on teaching the properties of color and how colors relate to one another in an approachable and easy to understand strategy has been a game changer both new and experienced painters wishing to improve their color.
For nearly ten years now, she has been working on writing and illustrating a book on this exact strategy and this project is finally coming to fruition. Color Relativity – Creating the Illusion of Light with Paint will be released early summer 2022.
Kami Mendlik grew up just north of Stillwater, Minnesota, on the family land where her daily wanderings taught her to love and respect the qualities of the natural world that later sparked her lifelong journey as a painter. She founded the St. Croix River School of Painting in 2008, and her current studio—located on a sixteen-acre farm—is inspirational to countless students.
