Project Description
Ceramic artist Joanna Buyer houses her studio in the Schmidt Brewery Artist Lofts. Joanna graduated in 2007 with a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Northwestern. She worked for several years for a production pottery company before leaving in 2011 to start her own ceramics company Fringe & Fettie Ceramics.
Regarding her work, Joanna says, “Working within the paratmeters of function, I welcome the restriction. It directs me and challenges me, allowing me to take something familiar, and sculpt it to my own aesthetic desires. I am influenced by the romanticized atmosphere the kitchen creates; of family meals and childhood memories, of beauty in the everyday encounters. It’s such an intimate space, inviting you to embrace it, and allowing the transcendent qualities of a pot to embark.”
