Project Description

Robert Briscoe is a professional potter who has created functional stoneware for over 40 years, most notably from his studio and home in Harris, MN. “I have been a potter for the shear, simple joy of making things with my own hands, struggling to bring ideas fully into form, watching the studio fill up with fresh pots. Each working cycle I try to renew that passion, found when I first touched clay,” says Bob. “These are simple pots, with quiet but robust surfaces, made in a scale meant to convey generosity.”

A native of Kansas City, Bob graduated from Kansas State University. He has participated in solo shows and group exhibitions, and at art festivals including the Smithsonian Craft Fair, Cherry Creek Arts Festival (Denver) and Philadelphia Craft Fair. The artist has been honored with a McKnight Fellowship, a Jerome Foundation Award and recognition at the Winter Park Festival of Art, Winter Park, FL, and the Washington Craft Show, Washington, DC. He regularly teaches workshops throughout the US and Canada and has been host potter during the annual Minnesota Potters of the Upper St. Croix Valley Studio Tour. Bob’s work is avidly collected throughout North America as well as Japan, and is represented at the Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, MN; the Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI; and the Margaret Harlow Collection at Bemidji State University, Bemidji, MN.
