North Carolina printmaker and book artist Andy Farkas works with wood engraving, drypoint and etching techniques to create his detailed, evocative images, primarily in black and white. Reminiscent of antique illustration, Andy’s work explores the capabilities of fine line in creating form, texture and nuance.
Andy is the author and illustrator of a series of limited edition artist books including hmm . . a bear who thinks he’s a tree, Saints in a House of Healing, and Four Stories. He also offers website design and letterpressed goods at Fablewood, his Asheville studio. In 2007, he was a visiting artist at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in Minneapolis.
His intricate illustrations are often enhanced through short, lyrical prose and quotes from his books; a quote from one:
“In it, each saw something different, the same, beautiful.”
