Minneapolis painter Tom Tyler generously applies acrylic paint to canvas, creating texture and movement, bringing intensity and drama to his scenes. An admirer of work by early 20th century German Expressionists, he strives to harness the power of painting to engage the viewer emotionally. “When art has these strengths,” he states, “it will deliver eternal pleasure. It will never become too familiar.”
Tom holds a BA in studio art from the University of Minnesota, where he studied with painters Jo Lutz Rollins and Cameron Booth. The award-winning artist has participated in several solo shows and group exhibitions in Minnesota, California and New Mexico. He is a full-time painter who currently teaches at the Bloomington Art Center, where he has also served as a member of the board of directors.
